Following a long working relationship with South East London ICB, HL were appointed to refurbish and increase clinical capacity at South Lambeth Road Practice.
The ICB had secured Section 106 funding in 2016 to increase clinical capacity in 3 practices to manage the increase in demand for GP services following the construction of the Nine Elms development – which is expected to bring over 18,000 new homes to the locality.
Due to unforeseen delays the ICB weren’t able to bring the project to fruition until 2021 by which time significant inflation relation to Covid and Brexit had significantly erode the tangible value of the funding.
Furthermore once the practice had vacated, squatters had taken up residence, causing further delays and significant damage to the premises.
HL collaborated closely with the practice and the ICB in designing a cost effective scheme that fully refurbished the practice and increased clinical capacity.
Highlights include:

  • Reimagined layout: A welcoming, patient-focused environment, utilisation every available space to increase clinical capacity
  • Full clinical fit-out: Compliant with HBNs and HTMs, including all support spaces
  • Integrated systems: Collaboration with SEL ICB’s Infection Control and IT teams
  • Complete refurbishment: Strip-out of partitions, finishes, and services.
  • Regulatory compliance: Change of use and Building Regulations permissions secured

Project Delivery
HL also supported South East London ICB in tendering and contract administration, ensuring the design intent was maintained from concept to completion.
The Result

  • Modern & accessible: Improves patient experience and staff efficiency
  • Increased clinical capacity: Responding to the needs of the community

The project transformed the practice into a welcoming, efficient environment that truly supports patient care to the increasing local community.
