Creating a Healthcare Hub with Lasting Social Impact
HL had the privilege of working with North Central London ICB, the Hampstead Group Practice, and the Royal Free Hospital Trust to help acquire a former administrative building from Camden Council.
Through a series of workshops with multiple stakeholders, we developed a long-term redevelopment proposal to transform the property into an Integrated Health Hub – bringing together multi-disciplinary clinical teams to serve the local community.
To demonstrate the vision in practice, we were commissioned to design and deliver a first phase of the plan. During this stage, Marie Curie joined the project with a need for clinical accommodation and a reablement gym facility. We were proud to collaborate with the charity free of charge, supporting their vital work for patients and families.
Working to a restricted budget, our design prioritised efficiency and adaptability, ensuring maximum usable space for both the practice and Marie Curie. Key elements included:
- Repurposing space: Stripping out finishes and partitions, creating five fully compliant clinical rooms (HBNs and HTMs).
- Community facilities: Converting former office areas into a welcoming reablement gym.
- Collaboration: Partnering with SEL ICB’s Infection Control and IT teams to integrate systems effectively.
- Approvals & governance: Coordinating with RFL to secure permissions for works.
- Cost efficiency: Maximising the available budget to achieve the greatest impact.
HL also supported NCL ICB in tendering and contract administration, and we were delighted to collaborate with NC Construction to bring the project to life. Together, we successfully delivered a space that meets immediate needs while laying the foundation for a future neighbourhood health hub.
