New Build House at Iveston
The village is a very pretty place with a predominance of stone farm buildings and traditional architectural forms, in a linear street form.
The client brief was to create a modern house using stone materials and forms to match the vernacular of the street.
A design solution therefore has a very different front and back elevations. The front replicates the scale and form of a traditional Durham farmhouse, with a hint of modern form in the entrance porch. This contrasts with the rear house in an elegant glass pavilion overlooking the views to the north.
Again, a principle part of the brief was to create a highly insulated, thermally efficient house to minimise energy consumption.
Construction is currently ongoing and due for completion in 2019.
