Bishop Auckland College is a new build College on an existing site completed in September 2007.
The existing rambling buildings remained in occupation whilst the new College building was constructed to the rear of the site. Once cleared, and the car parking and landscaping completed, there was a formal approach to the striking new three-storey building.
Student services and the Learning Resource Centre are at the heart of the design in the main entrance agora, with its welcoming and spacious Information, Advice & Guidance Centre. There is direct access to student dining, the multi-purpose Sports Hall and all the faculties together with a Conference Suite. Public access has been a very high priority.
This enabled the College to respond to both formal and informal community needs and provide a high level of access, particularly off the central area, to the IT and the flexible learning spaces.
