Redcar and Cleveland Council have now approved plans to restore, grade II listed, Redcar Central Station in an ambitious £5.9m redevelopment project.

The station’s transformation, both externally and internally, will see upgraded travel facilities including ticket machines, travel information and waiting areas along with the creation of ten commercial and retail units at the ground floor level.

The project will also include the introduction of environmental improvements – electric heating, south facing solar panels, fabric insulation and new weathterproofing – which will increase the overall environmental performance and carbon footprint of the station.

The projects estimated date for completion is 2025.
