As the new student year kick starts, Teesside University invited our graduate interior designers back for the day to inspire and encourage their design students, giving a glimpse of what it’s like to work professionally in the industry and how they found their time while studying.

Rachel Clark and Polly Dodsworth, Interior Designers at Howarth Litchfield both graduated from Teesside University with bachelor and master’s degrees. They were delighted to be asked back to talk to new and existing students along with other alumni from both the interior design and interior architecture courses.

The design school at Teesside University is regarded as having some of the best courses in the country and with an exciting newly refurbished studio, the interior design and interior architecture degrees now give students a more professional insight into the industry, as well as creating a fantastic steppingstone for aspiring designers to begin their careers.

Rachel, who completed her bachelor’s degree in 2014 and masters in 2017 said: “The interior design course at Teesside University is such a great base to start your career. It was such a great opportunity to go back as a graduate and share with young designers what it’s like to work in the design industry. So much is going on in the world of interiors right now, it a very exciting time for aspiring designers to be starting out.”

Polly, who completed her bachelor’s degree in 2017 and then continued to graduate from her masters the following year added: “I was very grateful to be invited back to the interior design department at Teesside. As a student, having the opportunity to speak to alumni and professionals was a priceless experience and I hope by speaking to some of the new and current students, I have given the same.”
