Following a long-standing partnership with South East London ICB, HL was appointed to refurbish and expand clinical capacity at Mawbey Group Practice.
The ICB had originally secured Section 106 funding in 2016 to increase capacity across three GP practices, in response to the demand created by the Nine Elms development—bringing more than 18,000 new homes to the area.
However, unforeseen delays meant the project could not move forward until 2021. By then, the impact of Covid and Brexit-related inflation had significantly reduced the real value of the funding.
At the time, Mawbey Group Practice (MGP) occupied around half of the Mawbey Health Centre, sharing the site with landlord Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The project aimed to expand MGP’s footprint by transforming under-utilised administrative areas into fully functional clinical space.
HL worked closely with the practice and the ICB to design a cost-effective scheme that both refurbished the practice and increased clinical capacity.
Project Highlights
- Effective collaboration: Navigating GSTT’s processes to secure permissions for the works.
- Full clinical fit-out: Delivered in line with HBN and HTM standards, including all necessary support spaces.
- Integrated systems: Close coordination with SEL ICB’s Infection Control and IT teams.
Project Delivery
HL supported the ICB throughout tendering and contract administration, and partnered with Re:Gen Construction to deliver the scheme successfully.
The Result
Modern & accessible environment: Enhancing both patient experience and staff efficiency.
