It’s been a busy week at the office across many projects for HLP.
We continue to enjoy great recognition for the project, Treetops, which has been shortlisted for an AJ retrofit award, a national award for projects involving the integration and conversion of existing buildings.
To our great surprise and delight, Treetops was shortlisted for the Manser Medal by RIBA, and it is down to the last 23 houses. For those that are not aware this is the Stirling Prize equivalent for domestic one off houses. This is a great honour and we are really pleased.
It shows that great architecture doesn’t have to be massive, expensive or even that luxurious. The skill is in the use of good materials, great ideas and we like to think a good Architect.
Another project, Wheatley Hill Medical Centre, commence onsite in Durham this week. Simply getting medical projects onsite is hard these days, so well done to all involved.
We are now working again at Acklam Hall, a beautiful Grade I listed building in Middlesbrough. Our hertitage team have been preparing the way to start the process of bringing the grand building back to life, safe and secure for its future uses. Our interiors team are already preparing the mood boards and materials that will create the vitality and life of the new restaurants and offices.
We hope that everyone is enjoying our new twitter page, HLParchitecure, which is getting lots of attention with site shots and our ‘quote’ of the week . It’s all new technology to some of us but to the younger generation it’s the normal way of communicating with instant responses.
On the subject of technology, HLP continues to invest with our staff so that all projects that require BIM / revit can be satisfied to meet client expectations. We see BIM as a further tool in our armour of skills. It doesn’t replace good design or skill of the personnel. We see a lot of practices telling the world that BIM solves everything. It doesn’t! However, it’s integration into our process management will aid projects.
