The Bishop Ian Ramsey School is situated in a woodland environment on an extremely linear tight site.
The existing school needed to remain open, so the design of the new school responded to this and long term requirements. Therefore, a partial demolition was the best solution for both short and long term objectives.
The school building is designed over 2 storeys, with all the large spaces in a single storey element to the front. The teaching accommodation is 2 storeys to the rear of the school, the ground floor classrooms, open onto a timber decking terrace which spills down onto the playground area at the rear, and takes out the natural fall in the site. The remainder of the existing school was demolished to provide a Multi Use Games Area, primary entrance route and car parking.
