North East architecture practice Howarth Litchfield has been appointed to The Able Group’s new, multi-million pound vehicle storage and distribution centre on the South Bank of the Humber at Immingham.

The 6000m2 facility is being delivered by Scunthorpe-headquartered Clugston under a design and build contract with Howarth Litchfield.

The PDI unit (pre-inspection/pre-delivery), which will be used by BMW UK Limited, will see several thousand vehicles passing through each year to be prepared, cleaned and inspected before transportation to retailers throughout the country.

Neil Turner, Howarth Litchfield director, said: “We were very pleased to secure this appointment and hope that it marks the start of a longer term relationship for Howarth Litchfield at this site where the Able Group has exciting and ambitious development plans.

“We enjoy continued success in the commercial, industrial and automotive sectors, where we have sound experience of designing and building the kind of large portal frame steel structure required for this project.“

Clugston’s managing director Steve Radcliffe added: “We are looking forward to working with Able and Howarth Litchfield and through collaboration and teamwork we will seek to minimise the impact of our construction activities on the ongoing site operations.“

The project is due to start on site on 6th March and is scheduled to last 30 weeks.
